Tackling Homophobia
Despite reforms recognising LGBTIQ rights, levels of discrimination and violence against LGBTIQ people have remained constant over the last decade. The effect of heterosexist violence and harassment on LGBTIQ people cannot be underestimated. It ranges from isolated incidents of verbal, physical and sexual abuse to ongoing systematic harassment and vilification and can have serious long-term consequences.
Your Lobby, the VGLRL, is one of four Campaign Partners of the No to Homophobia campaign. We are proud to be a part of Australia's first national campaign braodcasting on mainstream media channels. View the tv ads tackling homophobia.
The VGLRL is working with a coalition of LGBTIQ community organisations on a social marketing campaign to tackling homophobia, transphobia and biphobia and encourage the entire community to take a stand against the harassment that experienced on a daily basis by LGBTIQ Victorians.
A recent report on the health and wellbeing of LGBTIQ Australians recommends the development and implementation of laws to protect against heterosexist violence and harassment.
The VGLRL campaigns for legal protections which will make a real difference to decreasing levels of harassment experienced by member of the LGBTIQ community because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or presentation.
